Postdoc Housing Waitlist
Postdocs eligible for housing, including those who were not yet approved for housing by their department, can apply each semester for the housing waitlist. Through the waitlist, eligible postdocs may select from units that remain after the housing approval period has ended. Postdocs who receive housing from the waitlist are offered a one-year lease term.
- Housing through the waitlist is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.
- Proof of full-time employment must be provided prior to being added to the postdoc housing waitlist.
- Offers from the postdoc housing waitlist are for a one-year lease term. Extensions beyond that term are not guaranteed and must be reviewed and approved by the postdoc’s school or department.
- Postdocs who received housing from the waitlist may apply for an extension to remain in housing beyond the one-year lease term. Extensions may only be accommodated for postdocs who receive an allocation from their school or department.
- While in housing, postdocs who are not approved for an extension will receive personalized outreach and an offer of assistance to guide their search for housing on the open market.
- Postdoc residents who fulfill the terms of the lease may request a residency verification letter from the Office of the Controller that details their good standing and timely payment of rent. Such letters may be helpful when searching for off-campus housing.
- Complete an application in the Housing Portal.
- Send proof of full-time employment to [email protected].
- Participate in waitlist housing selection at the time of your scheduled appointment.
- After the waitlist has opened, appointments will be confirmed by email for those who applied and provided their proof of employment.
- All appointments will take place on a Monday or Thursday between 10 AM and 4 PM.
- Waitlist housing selection will be available during the assigned appointment, in the Housing Portal under the Assignment tab. Click Housing Selection during the appointment to view and select an available unit. Review the Faculty, Staff & Postdoc Housing Selection FAQ for more information.
- Selections must be confirmed through the Housing Portal during the appointment only. No email responses or late responses will be considered, and reassignments cannot be accommodated.
- Postdocs who receive an offer will have five business days to accept or decline the offers. Offer expiration dates cannot be extended.
- A security deposit equivalent to one month's rent is required to accept a housing offer received through waitlist.
- If an appointment time or offer expires or is declined, postdocs must reapply to be considered again. A maximum of two housing applications may be submitted each semester.
- While waitlist assignments are based on housing selection, the needs of the unit are also taken into account. As such, requests for specific units cannot be guaranteed.
- Waitlist applications expire at the end of each semester. Postdocs interested in housing for the next semester must submit a new application to be considered again.
- Should applicants no longer need housing, they should retract the housing application on the Housing Portal to remove themselves from the waitlist.
