Smoking | Faculty & Postdoc

Columbia Residential's smoking policy is designed to ensure compliance with applicable laws and  University policy while promoting the health and safety of the residential community.

For the purposes of this policy, "smoking" includes inhaling, exhaling, breathing, or carrying any lighted or activated product, such as:

  • Cigars, cigarettes, or pipes
  • E-cigarettes or vaporizers
  • Hookahs
  • Marijuana cigarettes
  • Any other tobacco or similarly lighted product

Under the terms of the housing agreement, smoking is strictly prohibited in the following areas:

  • Inside apartments
  • Common areas
  • Building interiors
  • Adjoining grounds
  • Any other Columbia Residential property

Residents are expected to comply with this policy to maintain a clean, safe, and smoke-free living environment for all members of the community.
