Security Deposits | Faculty & Postdocs

As part of the housing application process, faculty and postdocs applicants are required to pay a security deposit to accept and secure their offer. Applicants are encouraged to plan for this fee to avoid delays in securing their housing.

  • The security deposit payment must be made by credit or debit card through the Housing Portal.
  • The deposit is equivalent to one month's rent, and it is held by the university's bank (Chase) until a resident moves out.
  • Refunds of security deposits after move-out are processed by Real Estate Billing in the Office of the VP, Finance and Treasurer. For more details regarding security deposits, please feel free to reach out to them directly at [email protected].
  • The security deposit will be returned upon vacancy, in accordance with the terms of the lease agreement.
  • Residents who transfer to a new unit must pay a new security deposit, which will be added to the first rent bill for the new apartment.
