Disruptive Behavior | Faculty & Postdocs

Faculty and postdoc residents are expected to maintain respectful and responsible behavior while living in Columbia Residential housing. Residents must not engage in objectionable conduct, including any actions that make the unit or building less livable for others or interfere with the peaceful enjoyment of neighboring units.

Residents are required to comply with all current and future city, state, and federal laws and regulations, as well as all rules outlined in the housing agreement, any future reasonable policies established by Columbia Residential, and Columbia University Policies. Residents are responsible for their own conduct, as well as the behavior of their immediate family members and any visiting guests.

Residents must maintain a safe, sanitary, and respectful living environment for themselves and others. Objectionable conduct is strictly prohibited and includes any behavior that:

  • Makes the unit or building unfit for occupancy.
  • Disrupts or interferes with other residents' right to peacefully enjoy their units.
  • Creates dangerous, hazardous, or unsanitary conditions that negatively impact other tenants.

Residents are expected to uphold community living standards and respect the rights and well-being of their neighbors. Violations of this policy may result in loss of housing eligibility.
